ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – British boy band sensation One Direction took to the stage at the Edward Jones Dome last night for the first concert in more than 10 years.

And while nearly 50,000 screaming girls crowded inside the sold-out concert at the Dome, many parents hit nearby bars and restaurants around Washington Ave.

KMOX’s Michael Calhoun found Kurt Gunhus and his wife Tammy killing time at Pi Pizzeria.

“They’ve been listening to the music for the last two weeks,” he said. “I am tired of One Direction.”

And Lisa Cartwright was enjoying some down time on the patio after driving in from Mississippi.

“My daughter has a wall in her bedroom that’s probably 12-feet wide, and there’s not a place of paint that you can see because there’s One Direction posters from the top of the ceiling to the floor, from one corner of the wall to the other,” she said. “None of the two are the same.”

In the alleys and side streets around the Dome, many parents simply sat in their cars waiting for the concert to end.

Near the end of the show, member Harry Styles paid homage to Rams rookie Michael Sam, donning his jersey.

The small gesture earned the attention of non-profit GLAAD, who commended the star’s “show of solidarity.”
